One Size Fits Most

Have you ever seen a label in clothing that size “One Size Fits Most”?

It’s usually on something like a big blanket with a hood (you know what I’m talking about), or fun socks, or those little slippers with the elastic around the top. Looking at those items, you might say “How does this not fit everyone?!?” But you have to think about what the word ‘fit’ means.

Fit: “The particular way in which something, especially a garment or component, fits around or into something.”

So there are definitely going to be people who are too small for the garment to fit the way it was intended, and there are also people who will be too big for the garment to fit. That’s just a fact of life. So they can’t say “One size fits all”, because it isn’t true.

For some, the item will be shorter on them than it is on other people, but the width will be fine. For others, the length is great, but the width might be a little snug. Or perhaps the sleeves are too long and need folded up a bit, or the hood goes completely over their face if they put it up. The fit is different, but they can put the item on.

The majority of people don’t care because they fall into the category of “most”, so they don’t give those items a second thought. If they want it, they buy it and enjoy it for what it is.

Aren’t you glad that the Holy Spirit is a “One size fits all” kind of guy? He is available and will fill the space of each person who welcomes Him in to their life. He offers the fruit of the Spirit and walks alongside all who put their faith in Jesus. He doesn’t hold back any good thing for those who walk in His ways.

Now, His approach is not the same for everyone. So I guess in that sense He’s more like a custom-made garment that fits just right. And I am grateful that God does not expect me to be a cookie-cutter person, and that He does not approach me with a cookie-cutter mentality either.

The Holy Spirit is an awesome gift to believers! There is so much He does in and through us. Get to know Him and His ways. Read about Him and don’t discount His role in your life. Let Him fill you up and lead you. It will make all the difference!

Try Him on for size and see if He isn’t a perfect fit!

1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-12
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. (5) And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. (6) And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. (7) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. [8] For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; (9) To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; (10) To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: (11) But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. (12) For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

EPHESIANS 3:16-19
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; (17) That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, (18) May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; (19) And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

EPHESIANS 4:3-6
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; (3) Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (4) There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; (5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (6) One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

JOHN 14:15-18
If ye love me, keep my commandments. (16) And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; (17) Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (18) I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

ROMANS 8:26-28
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (27) And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. [28] And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

ROMANS 8:5-10
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. (6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. [8] So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. (9) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (10) And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
