Eddie Haskell Religion

I grew up in a house where my parents really loved the shows of their childhoods, so we grew up watching them, too. I’m talking Beverly Hillbillies, Andy Griffith, Petticoat Junction, Bewitched, Leave it to Beaver…

Which brings me to today’s thoughts. Do you remember Eddie Haskell? The kid who was ‘friends’ with Wally, but was really more of a jerk and bully? He was always ragging on the Beav, but in front of adults he was as polite as could be.

I think there is a religion that could be labeled ‘Eddie Haskell Christianity’. There are people who know all the right things to say and do, especially in front of leaders or the pastor, but inside they aren’t really following Christ at all. They put on a good show when the time calls for it, but that’s all it is. In their everyday life they’re perhaps even known as a bully, or a troublemaker.

It can be easy to ‘play the game’ with religion. I did that for 20 years before really knowing Christ. But I can tell you there is no joy or peace there. Truly knowing Jesus as my Saviour has changed me in so many good ways, and continues to challenge me to grow. I urge you to get to really know Him.

If you feel like you’ve been playing the game, and you don’t want to anymore, you don’t have to be an Eddie Haskell like I was! Reach out- let’s chat.

Matt. 23:25-28
25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Psalm 86:5 For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.
